Wimborne Food Bank monthly update

Dear Supporters,

The last month - has been busy with serving families, providing Food Parcels, Easter Hampers, Easter Eggs & Easter School Holiday parcels to parents who are struggling to get by. We have seen a rise in people being housed & needing our home starter kits, we have commenced our first money course to support people to become financially resilient & we were outside Waitrose for 6 days thanking their customers / our supporters for their help with food donations, sharing information about the wide variety of services that we offer & sharing the stock items that we need the most help with. We also won a Wimborne Business Award for Outstanding Community Support 🎉

Rick Stein Coffee Morning - I have organised a lovely fundraising event on Tuesday 2nd June at the beautiful Rick Stein Sandbanks restaurant from 10-11.30am. Tickets are £10 each which includes Tea, Coffee, Cakes & Pastries. If you would like any tickets, then please let me know. The funds raised by this event will help towards activities for this year's Family Fun Event so we would really appreciate any support selling tickets or sharing the event. Flyer attached.

Stock - Our stock levels are quite low at the moment which can be usual for this time of year. Any help with food donations would be really appreciated to help us to continue to support families facing hardship. I have attached the list of items we need help with the most & we would appreciate it if you shared this list with your congregation or organisation. If anyone would prefer to donate online instead of giving food I have attached our QR Code to donate directly to us so that we can do a shop.

CMA Team - Our Community Money advice Team are working with people with debts & I have attached a visual detailing some of the fantastic work that they are doing.

Family Fun Event - I am busy organising this year's family fun event. It is on Saturday the 25th July from 10-30-2.30pm on the field by Wimborne Rugby Club. It is going to be bigger & better than ever (and a Wimborne Town of Culture event!)  so far we have Jamie Jigsaw, Mad4Animals, My Pop Balloons, Tumble Tots, Face Painting, Crafts, Art, Outdoor Games & more. I will send out more information next month but please save the date!

Here is some feedback that we received recently -

' I was really finding it hard to support my family, we’d used the food bank before a while ago, but my wife is awaiting surgery and I’m her carer we have 3 young children, and we are struggling. One visit to the food bank and we had enough food for the week; my wife was referred for a clothing parcel with comfy clothes for after surgery and a grant was put in for my children who are desperate for clothing. We are so grateful for all the support we have had, and we would love to be able to give back in the future'

So far this year we have helped to feed over 800 adults & children with around a week's worth of food, toiletries & cleaning products, we have provided over 170 recipe bags which contain all the ingredients & the recipe to make a fresh, healthy meal & successfully applied for 15 grants to further support people who are in crisis & who urgently needed white goods, furniture or clothing.

Thank you so so much for your help & support, we really value it & we could not do what we do without it. If you would like to come & visit the food bank sometime or if you have any questions at all then please let me know.

Planning your Visit

Welcome to St John's Church!

We are so delighted that you have found our website. We are a Church family in Wimborne for anyone living, working or studying around this area. Whoever you are, whatever your age, whether you’re an experienced Christian or not, we would love you to join us.

From an intrigued onlooker to the committed follower we are keen that everyone should grow in relationship with God through knowing Jesus. To help us do that our emphasis is on hearing God speak to us by his Holy Spirit through his word, the Bible. Each of us knows that we only grow in a relationship with someone and get to know them when we spend time listening to them and responding and reacting to what they say. So the focus of St John’s is on listening to God’s word, talking to him in prayer and taking up all that he says.

The Church family here at St John’s longs to help anyone who wants to investigate the life of Jesus. On this site you will find people, meetings, talks and events shaped to help you take another step forward in finding out more about God and his love for us in Jesus, and to help you get linked into the church family life.

We hope to have the opportunity to meet you personally in the very near future and that you will quickly feel at home at St John’s.

Stuart Hull and Nigel Day (Churchwardens)
Please note that we are currently seeking a new Vicar, following the retirement of Revd Peter Breckwoldt in July 2025
