Making the Conservatory easier to chat in! 

If you’ve ever tried to have a conversation in the Conservatory after a busy Sunday service, you’ll probably know the problem: it can get rather noisy! Read on to see how we are addressing this...

We’ve had feedback from a number of people who find it difficult to hear conversations in the Conservatory when it is busy – particularly after services when lots of us are enjoying a cuppa and catching up together.

The shape and hard surfaces of the room mean that sound tends to bounce around, creating an echo or reverberation which makes individual conversations harder to hear. So, in response to your feedback, we will shortly be installing acoustic sound-absorbing panels in the Conservatory.

The panels are specially designed to absorb sound that would otherwise be reflected back into the room, helping to reduce reverberation and create a quieter, more comfortable environment. The WALLSORBA panels we are using are designed for exactly this purpose and are widely used in community halls, classrooms and other busy shared spaces.

Keith, our church architect, will be overseeing the work and has carefully planned the position and appearance of the panels. Most will sit high on the walls around the Conservatory, with colours chosen to blend with the existing timber and wall finishes. So while you will probably notice them, they have been designed to sit comfortably within the character of the room rather than dominate it.

The aim is simple: to make the Conservatory a more comfortable place to meet, talk and enjoy one another’s company.

A small voluntary team will be needed to install the panels, so if you are able to help, please let Keith know.

We are also very grateful to be able to say that the entire cost of this improvement is being met by a kind benefactor, so there will be no cost to the church.
