Support our local historic Dorset churches

Are you able to help us by supporting a truly valuable local cause?  The DORSET RIDE & STRIDE takes place again this year on Saturday 12 September, and we would really appreciate your help. You can do this in a number of ways:-

  • join us for a lovely day of gentle cycling, including a picnic lunch, and enjoy getting to know others in the church; OR

  • help us to man the church between 10.00 and 2.00 pm, so that we can welcome any groups that have cycled to St John's; AND

  • sponsor the St John's team by donating to our JustGiving page HERE

The annual Ride & Stride is a national event but the proceeds are used locally to support Dorset churches. Last year, around £100,000 was raised for urgent repair work & key improvement grants to our historic churches - including our own St John’s.
Join us this year for a thoroughly enjoyable cycle ride, stopping off at regular intervals to visit some of our beautiful churches in Dorset. Bring along any friends and family and enjoy stopping for a picnic at Spetisbury’s old station on the former railway line as we travel this and other safer roads & tracks. The history is amazing, the countryside is beautiful, the friendship are great - and the cycling is always good exercise without being too onerous!
We usually have 2 rides of 12 & 30 miles, but can vary this to suit, providing we have sufficient notice to arrange alternatives.
Some people choose to walk rather than cycle - indeed,  we are encouraged to use whatever means we prefer to support this cause, from horses (if you have one) to static bikes at the gym!

Please let us know if you are interested in joining us for the cycle ride or if you are able to support us by manning the church by emailing either John Fleming, Debbie Fleming, Tim Butterfield or Ben Wiltshire:

And do please sponsor us - see link to JustGiving above!

Planning your Visit

Welcome to St John's Church!

We are so delighted that you have found our website. We are a Church family in Wimborne for anyone living, working or studying around this area. Whoever you are, whatever your age, whether you’re an experienced Christian or not, we would love you to join us.

From an intrigued onlooker to the committed follower we are keen that everyone should grow in relationship with God through knowing Jesus. To help us do that our emphasis is on hearing God speak to us by his Holy Spirit through his word, the Bible. Each of us knows that we only grow in a relationship with someone and get to know them when we spend time listening to them and responding and reacting to what they say. So the focus of St John’s is on listening to God’s word, talking to him in prayer and taking up all that he says.

The Church family here at St John’s longs to help anyone who wants to investigate the life of Jesus. On this site you will find people, meetings, talks and events shaped to help you take another step forward in finding out more about God and his love for us in Jesus, and to help you get linked into the church family life.

We hope to have the opportunity to meet you personally in the very near future and that you will quickly feel at home at St John’s.

Our new Vicar, Revd Tim Partridge, joins us at the end of October - it will be a pleasure to welcome him, his wife Abby, and their three children to the church family.
