Walking with St Paul

image2Having reflected on Apostle Paul's profound impact on bringing Christianity to the Gentiles, I embarked on a faith journey. I decided to retrace Apostle Paul's final journey from his shipwreck in Malta to his crypt in Rome, from 23rd Nov to 29th Dec 2025. My goal was to find the authentic locations where he walked, stood, and preached – the real deal, not tourist traps. I followed his path from Acts 27:27 – Acts 28.

This 5-week journey drew me closer to God, but it wasn't easy. Satan tested my faith at times, trying to block my path! Despite the challenges, I believe I achieved my mission. I've been encouraged to write a small book about it, and maybe in the future, I'd like to share some key experiences...below are a few snippets and through Faith where the Holy Spirit, is leading me.

Terry Howell (saved at St John's since 20th April 2025)

image4So, it all started in St Paul’s Bay, Malta.
I don't believe he landed on the island with the tourist statue – that's just a tiny islet, not the main island Acts 28:1-2 NIV
[1] Once safely on shore, we found out that the island was called Malta. [2] The islanders showed us unusual kindness.

image3In St Paul's Bay, I met Tom, a wonderful Irishman determined to educate me - loved him!  I encountered so many beautiful people on the journey, too many to mention.
Some were, for a time, so full of the Spirit - they were surely angels for the day , especially when I faced pitfalls and trials along the way.

image6The next stop was the Silent City of Mdina, Malta.
Acts 28:7-9 NIV
[7] There was an estate nearby that belonged to Publius, the chief official of the island. He welcomed us to his home and showed us generous hospitality for three days. [8] His father was sick in bed, suffering from fever and dysentery. Paul went in to see him and, after prayer, placed his hands on him and healed him. [9] When this had happened, the rest of the sick on the island came and were cured. The Chapel marks the spot where Paul healed Publius's father and other sick islanders. It's a modest church compared to most of the others I'd visited.

image5Jumping forward 3 weeks, I found Paul's 2-year house arrest spot where he wrote the Epistles, and the REAL Tre Fountains (outside of the city of Rome) - what a find!  The thing is, virtually everyone I'd met on my travels knew nothing about him... just tourist traps. Like it or not, I actually used Meta AI to help me find the true places - I was the ONLY person there. Mind-blowing! Martyrdom of Paul 3-5

image1After 3.5 weeks, I believe mission accomplished – filling in the gaps along the way. Finding Paul's Crypt was emotional, the end of my journey; I reflected on the trip and sites I had been so blessed to find and visit. From the viper attack on the beach at St Paul’s Bay to his final resting place, Crypt.

St Paul's a hero – he brought Christianity to the Gentiles. Without that Damascus revelation, the world might be a darker place. What a man! Amen.

The whole experience was quite extraordinary, emotionally draining, but so, so uplifting.

During my travels, I built a basic website and created a Facebook group (in English and Italian) to connect with the people I met. I'd love for you to check it out! The website's gallery section's still under construction – the Holy Spirit's leading me to prioritise connecting with those I met and sharing encouragement in Love, Hope, and Faith.

Planning your Visit

Welcome to St John's Church!

We are so delighted that you have found our website. We are a Church family in Wimborne for anyone living, working or studying around this area. Whoever you are, whatever your age, whether you’re an experienced Christian or not, we would love you to join us.

From an intrigued onlooker to the committed follower we are keen that everyone should grow in relationship with God through knowing Jesus. To help us do that our emphasis is on hearing God speak to us by his Holy Spirit through his word, the Bible. Each of us knows that we only grow in a relationship with someone and get to know them when we spend time listening to them and responding and reacting to what they say. So the focus of St John’s is on listening to God’s word, talking to him in prayer and taking up all that he says.

The Church family here at St John’s longs to help anyone who wants to investigate the life of Jesus. On this site you will find people, meetings, talks and events shaped to help you take another step forward in finding out more about God and his love for us in Jesus, and to help you get linked into the church family life.

We hope to have the opportunity to meet you personally in the very near future and that you will quickly feel at home at St John’s.

Stuart Hull and Nigel Day (Churchwardens)
Please note that we are currently seeking a new Vicar, following the retirement of Revd Peter Breckwoldt in July 2025
