StreetLight Prayer Update

StreetLight Prayer Update – December into the New Year

“Supporting people, sharing Jesus, changing lives”
Hello Friends, Supporters & Prayer Warriors,
As we come to the close of this year and begin to look ahead to the next, we want to say thank you. Thank you for your prayers, encouragement, and faithfulness during what has been a meaningful and formative season for StreetLight.
Over the last six months, as we’ve stepped into stewarding this ministry, we’ve been deeply aware that we are building on faithful foundations laid by many before us. It has been a time of learning, listening, and gently growing into what God is inviting StreetLight to become in this season.

🌟 A New Path  Growing as We Go
During a recent Bible study with some of the team, we were struck again by a detail in the Christmas story. After the wise men encountered Jesus, Scripture tells us:
“They returned to their country by another route.” (Matthew 2:12)
This wasn’t a rejection of the journey that brought them there but a response to meeting Jesus. Their encounter changed how they moved forward.
That has felt like a helpful picture for us. Over these past months, as we’ve prayed, served, and listened together, we’ve sensed God gently shaping how we move forward helping us grow, deepen, and respond faithfully to His leading for this next chapter of StreetLight’s life.

🎄 A Christmas Party Full of Gratitude (and Food!)
Our StreetLight Christmas Party was such a lovely moment for the whole team. It gave us space to pause, reflect, and celebrate all that God has done this year  gathered around food, conversation, and laughter.
There’s something deeply biblical about sharing a meal, and we often joke that food might be one of the best ways to talk about ministry. Jesus did a lot of life-changing work around tables, after all and we’re more than happy to continue that tradition!
It was a joy-filled reminder that ministry is built on relationship, thankfulness, and shared life.

🎉 Ending the Year Well
This month also marked the conclusion of this year’s Bible storytelling sessions and Youth Club. These have been a real highlight full of engagement, growth, and encouragement and a strong way to finish a year of seeking to follow God faithfully.
We’re already excited to restart these in the new year, trusting that God will continue to meet young people as they come through our doors.

🌱 Looking Ahead — Continuing to Grow
As we look to the year ahead, we feel encouraged to continue growing deeper in prayer, discernment, and attentiveness to what God is doing among us.
This includes plans to make changes and upgrades within the centre not only in how it looks, but in how it functions, feels, and serves the community. Our heart is to see StreetLight continue to develop as a place that is welcoming, excellent, and rooted in God’s love.
We’re also praying about how StreetLight can become more widely known, so that more people can find connection, support, and hope here.

💙 A Joyful and United Team
One of the great blessings of this season has been the staff team. The way the team works together, supports one another, and shares a heart for the centre has created such a positive and joyful atmosphere.
Having more Christians on the team has added to that sense of unity and purpose, and it’s been a privilege to serve alongside one another.
We’re especially excited to see what the new year brings through Vicky, who has been such an encouragement a friendly, approachable, and faith-filled presence in the centre. We’re grateful for all she brings and expectant for what God will continue to do through her.

🙏 A Specific Prayer Need
As we look ahead, we’d really value prayer for a new Operations / Café Assistant role. Please pray that God would provide the right person someone with the right skills, heart, and calling at exactly the right time.

Planning your Visit

Welcome to St John's Church!

We are so delighted that you have found our website. We are a Church family in Wimborne for anyone living, working or studying around this area. Whoever you are, whatever your age, whether you’re an experienced Christian or not, we would love you to join us.

From an intrigued onlooker to the committed follower we are keen that everyone should grow in relationship with God through knowing Jesus. To help us do that our emphasis is on hearing God speak to us by his Holy Spirit through his word, the Bible. Each of us knows that we only grow in a relationship with someone and get to know them when we spend time listening to them and responding and reacting to what they say. So the focus of St John’s is on listening to God’s word, talking to him in prayer and taking up all that he says.

The Church family here at St John’s longs to help anyone who wants to investigate the life of Jesus. On this site you will find people, meetings, talks and events shaped to help you take another step forward in finding out more about God and his love for us in Jesus, and to help you get linked into the church family life.

We hope to have the opportunity to meet you personally in the very near future and that you will quickly feel at home at St John’s.

Please note that we are currently seeking a new Vicar, following the retirement of Revd Peter Breckwoldt in July 2025
