Wimborne Christian Aid Newsletter - December
Wimborne Area.
This newsletter gives details of forthcoming events in the Wimborne Area.
Our popular Christmas Eve Bread and Soup Lunch will again be at Wimborne Methodist Church this year. We hope you will be able to join us from 12.30 to 1.30pm on Wednesday 24th for a bowl of homemade soup and bread, rousing music from a live folk band and the sense of expectation in the air as Christmas approaches. Please publicise this family friendly favourite in your church/community group and amongst your own friends and family. There is no charge but we do welcome donations which will go towards Christian Aid’s Christmas Appeal, supporting families facing unimaginable hardship after fleeing violence. See below for more details.
In the New Year we will also be repeating another popular event, our Annual Quiz, on Sunday 25th January at 7.30pm, again at Wimborne Methodist Church. We hope you will be able to come along, either as part of a team of 4 or just come and join a team on the night.
Christian Aid Christmas Appeal.
As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, let's not forget communities affected by conflict. While many of us share a joyful and peaceful Christmas in our homes and churches, we invite you to consider families like Chance’s — facing unimaginable hardship after fleeing violence.

Chance with some of her children in
Katashola Camp
Chance lived in a small farming community in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Before the fighting, life was simple and full of love. Her children went to school; she worked as a shopkeeper alongside her husband. “I thought my life would be happy – to work with my husband, feed and educate our children. I never expected to leave my village.”
When violence reached her village, Chance faced an impossible choice. Soldiers had looted her shop and terrorised her neighbours. She knew she had to flee – or risk her life and her children’s.
Carrying her baby on her back and with her seven other children on foot, she set out into the night, walking 50 miles until they reached Katashola Camp. She hasn’t seen her husband since that night. She still doesn’t know if he’s alive.
Chance found safety in the camp but life is painfully hard. With no running water in her shelter, she walks long distances to collect water, carrying heavy jerrycans under the blazing sun. Her days are filled with worry about how to feed her children, keep them healthy and hold onto hope for their future.

Chance isn’t alone. She’s one of millions forced from their homes in the DRC – one of the largest, and now most urgent, humanitarian crises of our time.
Through the Christmas Appeal, Christian Aid will fund humanitarian aid to those like Chance who have lost everything, providing essentials such as healthy and nutritious foods, cooking utensils and personal hygiene keeping children safe and healthy.
