John 15:18-16:3 (March 17th)
Read John 15:18-16:3.
Why should we not be discouraged when Christianity is opposed?
When someone hates us it can be easier to bear if we know why, and if the real reason isn’t us. Opposition comes to Christians, because we belong to Christ, and ultimately the world hates God (John 15:18-25). Jesus tells us in advance so that we are prepared and don’t give up (John 16:1). And he gives us the Holy Spirit, so that in the midst of persecution, we can bear witness to Jesus. Let’s pray for Christians who face severe persecution (see the Open Doors World Watch List).
Family Bible Time
Do: pretend to be meeting as persecuted Christians (eg. Shut the curtains, have your Bible in a secret place, whisper, use a torch in a cupboard…)
Read: John 15:18-19
Think: why do some people not like Christians?
Do you know any examples of Christians being hated?
Pray: pray for Christians from a country on the world watch list
