John 7:40-52 (February 9th)
Read John 7:40-52.
Why do the 'important' people often reject Jesus?
The argument against Jesus is that he is from Galilee, whereas the Messiah was predicted to come from Bethlehem (Micah 5:2)! Jesus is rejected by those who think they already know the truth and won't listen. The temple guards are amazed by Jesus' words, but the Pharisees dismiss all those who believe as ignorant. Nicodemus tentatively sticks up for Jesus, but is not yet willing to publicly admit that he believes in Jesus (see John 12:42-43, 19:38-39).

Think: why did the guards not arrest Jesus?
What did the Pharisees think?
Pray: thank God that he chooses the humble.
Do: act out the scene, with someone pretending to be a not-very-"intelligent" guard, and someone pretending to be the very-"intelligent" Pharisee.
