StreetLight Prayer Update - October

“Supporting people, sharing Jesus, changing lives”
👋 Hello Friends, Supporters & Prayer Warriors
As autumn settles in, we continue to marvel at God’s faithfulness. This month has been full of encouragements, fresh opportunities, and also some tender goodbyes. Through it all, one thing remains constant: Jesus is at the centre, and we are learning afresh to sit at His feet before we rush to do His work.

🙏 Sitting at His Feet – Seeking God First

In Luke 10:38–42, Jesus visits Mary and Martha. While Martha was distracted with much serving, Mary sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to His teaching. Jesus told Martha that Mary had chosen the “better thing.”
This story is a powerful reminder to us at StreetLight. It’s easy to get caught up in activity, but God calls us first to seek His heart. As we spend time in His presence, our serving becomes more fruitful and Spirit-led. This month, more than ever, we are learning that ministry flows best when it begins with worship.

📖 Storytelling Success – Vicky’s New Project

Vicky’s Bible Storytelling sessions have launched with amazing energy — the first few weeks have been fully booked! It’s been a joy to watch her step into her gifting, opening the Bible in fun, creative ways that connect with mums and children.
Please pray that these groups continue to bear fruit  not just as activities, but as encounters with the living Word of God.

🙌 Trustees, Volunteers & Support

We are so grateful for the support of our trustees, including Sarah and Mike, who have been stepping in with fresh energy and commitment. Alongside them, other volunteers are joining in, offering their gifts and time in ways that strengthen our ministry.
We’ve also welcomed a student from QE School who is doing weekly work experience with us. She’s been a fantastic addition, helping with groups and learning new skills along the way. It’s been such a blessing to hear how her mum has already noticed real growth and confidence in her since joining StreetLight.

💔 Saying Goodbye – Honouring Peter & Susie

This month, we also said goodbye to two very special trustees: Peter and Susie.
From the very beginning, they have poured themselves into StreetLight with incredible love, humility, and faithfulness. Their desire to see Christ’s love shared in this community has been at the heart of everything they’ve done.
On a personal note (from James), in my short time getting to know them, I’ve been so blessed by their servant-heartedness, their wisdom, and their willingness to step in wherever needed. They embody what it means to serve Christ joyfully, and I’m deeply thankful for the way they have welcomed and encouraged me.
Though they are stepping down as trustees, Peter and Susie will continue volunteering  so this is not a goodbye, but a transition. Still, we wanted to pause and honour them for all they have sown. Their legacy will continue to bear fruit for years to come.

👋 Chris Stepping Down as Youth Worker

Another important transition this month is that Chris is stepping down as our Youth Worker. After much prayer and conversation together, Chris has discerned that his current work is where God is calling him to be right now.
In many ways, we can see God’s hand in this perhaps using StreetLight in some of His most wonderful ways to confirm Chris’s calling and show him where he is meant to serve.
While we’ll miss seeing him in the same role, Chris is not leaving us. He remains very much part of the family here at StreetLight and will continue to volunteer with us. We are so thankful for his time, his heart for young people, and his ongoing presence in the life of the centre.

🛹 New Youth Nights – Launching October 15th

I’m (James) excited to announce that the new Wednesday Youth Hub will be launching on 15th October! These evenings will create a safe, fun space for young people to gather skating, gaming, building friendships, and having opportunities for faith-filled conversations.
My prayer is that these nights will be more than just activities, but stepping-stones to discipleship. Please pray for a strong, Spirit-led launch and for young people’s hearts to be open to Jesus.

💷 Crowdfunding Goal – £10,000 for Growth

We’re preparing to launch a £10,000 crowdfunding campaign to invest in StreetLight’s next chapter. These funds will help us:
  • Develop and expand the Youth Centre
  • Improve café equipment and efficiency
  • Strengthen our capacity to serve both practically and spiritually
Please join us in praying for provision, open doors, and generosity — that God would supply every need as we continue to grow.

💛 A Final Word – Heart Before Hands

This season has been a reminder that before we build, we must listen; before we serve, we must seek. As we learn to sit at Jesus’s feet, we are filled with the strength and clarity we need for the road ahead.
Thank you for standing with us in prayer, encouragement, and generosity. Together, we are not only running a centre, but helping to build God’s kingdom in our community.

With love, gratitude, and expectation,
James, Vicky & the Trustees

Planning your Visit

Welcome to St John's Church!

We are so delighted that you have found our website. We are a Church family in Wimborne for anyone living, working or studying around this area. Whoever you are, whatever your age, whether you’re an experienced Christian or not, we would love you to join us.

From an intrigued onlooker to the committed follower we are keen that everyone should grow in relationship with God through knowing Jesus. To help us do that our emphasis is on hearing God speak to us by his Holy Spirit through his word, the Bible. Each of us knows that we only grow in a relationship with someone and get to know them when we spend time listening to them and responding and reacting to what they say. So the focus of St John’s is on listening to God’s word, talking to him in prayer and taking up all that he says.

The Church family here at St John’s longs to help anyone who wants to investigate the life of Jesus. On this site you will find people, meetings, talks and events shaped to help you take another step forward in finding out more about God and his love for us in Jesus, and to help you get linked into the church family life.

We hope to have the opportunity to meet you personally in the very near future and that you will quickly feel at home at St John’s.

Please note that we are currently seeking a new Vicar, following the retirement of Revd Peter Breckwoldt in July 2025
