Fire Drill!

We will be carrying out a fire drill on a Sunday in June. The alarm will sound, and a beacon will flash in the main church. Upon hearing this the service leader will provide instructions on what to do. Briefly, this will include:

  • A reminder of where the assembly point is (the school playing field at the top of the car park)
  • Instructions for parents whose children are in group activities - The children will be evacuated by group leaders regardless of which building they are in, so including those in school. All parents can meet up with their children at the left end of the playing field (nearest Legg Lane).
  • Vulnerable church members who may seek or require assistance will be helped by nominated people.
  • No cars should be moved during the evacuation - this is to prevent any accidents as people cross the car park to get to the assembly point.
  • Everyone will be asked to leave the building, using the nearest suitable exit, in a calm manner but without delay, and make their way to the assembly point.
  • Exits are:
    • the main doors at the back of church, then either out past the toilets or through the main foyer doors (best for disabled access/egress)
    • the door out via the South porch at the front right of the church (suitable for disabled access/egress using the available ramps)
    • the door out via the Vestry lobby at the front left of the church (not suitable for disabled access/egress)
    • the door out via the Youth Lounge (not suitable for disabled access/egress)
The drill will be observed and will help us to identify areas for improvement. Your feedback would be welcome. If you have any concerns, please contact Paula in the church office in the first instance.

We may be seeking to elect Fire Marshalls after the drill so if this is of interest to you and you are willing and able to undertake training for this role, please let the church office know.

Planning your Visit

Welcome from the VicarRevd. Peter Breckwoldt

Let me welcome you to St John’s! I am so delighted you have found our web site. We are a Church family in Wimborne for anyone living, working or studying around this area. Whoever you are, whatever your age, whether you’re an experienced Christian or not, we would love you to join us.

From an intrigued onlooker to the committed follower we are keen that everyone should grow in relationship with God through knowing Jesus. To help us do that our emphasis is on hearing God speak to us by his Holy Spirit through his word, the Bible. Each of us knows that we only grow in a relationship with someone and get to know them when we spend time listening to them and responding and reacting to what they say. So the focus of St John’s is on listening to God’s word, talking to him in prayer and taking up all that he says.

The Church family here at St John’s longs to help anyone who wants to investigate the life of Jesus. On this site you will find people, meetings, talks and events shaped to help you take another step forward in finding out more about God and his love for us in Jesus, and to help you get linked into the church family life.

I do hope I will have the opportunity to meet you personally in the very near future and that you will quickly feel at home at St John’s.

Revd. Peter Breckwoldt
