On the fourth Wednesday of every month from 8-9.15pm, we encourage the whole church family to come together for an evening of prayer for our world, nation and local community. We sing God’s praises, have a short talk from the Bible and spend time bringing the concerns of our hearts before the Lord. Details about each month’s gathering are published in the weekly noticesheet.
On alternate Thursday mornings (2nd and 4th weeks of the month) at 10.30am, we hold a traditional 1662 Book of Common Prayer communion service, with organ music and well-known hymns, followed by refreshments and fellowship. This service is quieter and more reflective than our usual Sunday services, and whilst all are most welcome, it is particularly popular with seniors.
Meeting on the last Thursday of the month, the walking group aims to build up Christian friendships and introduce non-Christians to Jesus in an informal way. We enjoy the beauty of creation by walking through south and east Dorset and west Hampshire; all are welcome, and we particularly encourage church members to bring friends along. Walks are usually between four and five miles, lasting up to 2.5 hours, and end with refreshments and fellowship at a tea shop or out of someone’s car boot when we’re in a remote area! Information can be found in the noticesheet or by contacting Ron Hopkins
On a Saturday in July, we gather together as church family at a local school for a day of teaching, activities and sung worship. This is a great way to get to know one another better and spend time with those whom we might not see every Sunday! On the Sunday, we’re back at St John’s for a Celebration Service, followed by a meal together. The whole weekend is a great chance to listen to God through his word, brought to us by a guest speaker, spend time in fellowship with the wider church family, and enjoy great food. See the church noticesheet for details about this year’s event.
On some Sundays in July and August, we encourage church members to bring a picnic lunch and spend time together either at St John’s or Pamphill Cricket Ground. There are usually games for the children (and energetic adults!) and time to relax and chat with friends. Look for this year’s dates in the noticesheet .
Held at Crane Valley Golf Club in the summer, our annual Golf Tournament is open to all ages and abilities. This year we are holding a 9-hole Texas Scramble and an 18-hole Stableford competition on separate Saturdays; look out for more details in the noticesheet .
We have a great number of hospitality events across the year, including Maundy Thursday Supper, Welcome Teas for new church members, Bring and Share meals and a Harvest Lunch. Keep an eye on the church noticesheet for details about the next opportunity to enjoy great food and fellowship!
We hold a number of courses across the year, including those aimed at introducing people to Christianity (Life Explored and Christianity Explored), discipleship courses to help us go deeper in our walk with God, and practical courses for specific areas of life, like Marriage, Parenting and CAP (Christians Against Poverty) Money courses. More information, including dates of the next sessions, can be found in the notice sheet.
