As a church, we believe in giving in response to God’s generosity towards us, and that we should seek to bless the church according to how we have been blessed. Part of this is volunteering our time and talents, but we should also think about financial giving. The decision of whether/how much to give is for everyone to make for themselves, but here are some guiding principles:
We ought to carefully plan our giving, dedicating to God the ‘firstfruits’ of our labours, rather than giving once all other needs are met.
The Church of England suggests we aim to give 5% of our income (after tax) to our church; the Bible clearly teaches us to ‘tithe’, which is giving 10% – that’s a huge challenge!
Jesus said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35) – as we give, we are blessed, our church is blessed and our community is blessed, and God is honoured!
Please do think about how God has blessed you, and how you can use this to further the work of his church and continue to build his kingdom in our community. You can download a copy of this year’s Giving Review booklet here , and a Standing Order form here .
