Baptism (or Christening) is a visible sign of God’s love in which people of all ages are welcomed into the church as followers of Christ. In baptism, parents thank God for His gift of life, make a decision to start their child on the journey of faith and ask for the Church’s support.
We are delighted that you are considering Baptism for your child or children at St John’s Church. We offer a Baptism Service for parents who live in St John’s Parish or are regular worshippers at St John’s. Alternatively, a Thanksgiving Service is available for parents who believe their children should be baptised by their own choice when they are older or for those who feel unable to fulfil the promises in the Baptism Service. Baptism and Thanksgiving Services usually take place at our 11am service.
We also baptise young people and adults, usually by full immersion in a special pool set up in the church. Please speak to our Vicar, Peter Breckwoldt, if this is of interest to you.
How can I arrange for my child to be baptised?
We ask that you:
Contact the Church Office (address below) to ask about arranging for a Baptism or Thanksgiving for your child. We will send you a follow-up letter and booklet for you to read.
• Come to one of our Sunday services at 11am in Church and introduce yourself to Peter Breckwoldt, our Vicar.
• Attend an ‘Understanding Baptism’ session, held at the Vicarage on a weekday evening.
• Book a date for the Thanksgiving or Baptism after you have attended this session.
